The National Football League has signed a five-year, $46.5 million contract with Jason Peters to remain its starting running back.
The deal includes a $25 million signing bonus, $25.5.5 in guaranteed money, and a $1.5-million roster bonus.
The Panthers were expected to be a longshot to keep Peters after he had an impressive rookie season in 2014.
The contract will give the Panthers the best-paid running back in the league.
The 49ers signed Adrian Peterson to a two-year extension last year.
