You might have seen a milk bar with an “Allergy” sign on it.
It’s not safe to consume milk or dairy products containing dairy, eggs, peanuts, shellfish, shell cream, or fish.
So what can you eat in your milk bar?
There are some general guidelines, but the best advice is to find out which milk bars are safe for you.
“We recommend you do not eat all milk products from the same brand,” says Paula Cavanaugh, a lactation consultant at the University of New Mexico.
“Most of the milk products that we serve are from a few different brands.
That way, you’ll be able to find the milk you need to keep you hydrated.”
The most popular brands are Alberts, Cigna, and Kellogg’s, but you can also find brands like the Honest Company, Kraft, Nestle, and Whole Foods.
“If you are a regular consumer of milk products, you might also find that milk brands you’ve already been following are not safe for your baby,” Cavanaugh says.
“For example, some milk brands are known for their high-fat content, and other milk brands have lower-fat milk content than the average milk product.
That means that you should be very careful about eating these milk products.”
If you’re worried about the milk in your bar, Cavanaugh recommends reading the label.
“Some milk brands do not have a milk percentage that is safe to drink.
It might say 0% milk,” she says.
She also recommends reading labels on the products before eating.
“I’m sure you’re going to be fine eating whatever you’ve been eating,” Conda says.
If you decide to give up the milk, she says, you can try some of the alternatives.
“There are a lot of different kinds of dairy alternatives you can get,” she adds.
For instance, some dairy alternatives can be fortified with calcium and vitamin D. “Many of these alternatives have been shown to help prevent the development of milk allergies,” she explains.
Cavanaugh also recommends finding a new milk bar recipe.
“It might be tempting to eat the milk from the new milk-free bar and have the taste of the old one, but it’s not a good idea,” she notes.
She recommends that you find the brand you’re looking for on Amazon, where many popular brands come in a variety of colors and sizes.
“Once you have the brand that you’re searching for, you may find that the brand has changed in the last couple of years,” Coyle says.
And it’s important to check the ingredients on the bottle.
“As long as the milk has been pasteurized, it’s safe to mix it with other foods,” Colla says.
