By now, you’ve heard the news about a new breast milk pump that will automatically make milk for you when you milk it, instead of having to do it yourself.
The Pumphub pump, which will be available this year, will also work with all the other breast milk pumps out there.
“It will be really easy for a newbie like myself to set up an account and get a pump that can give me my milk when I milk it,” says the Pumphub’s co-founder, Matt.
“This is a major step forward in the development of the pump, and it will enable a lot more women to start using it.”
Matt is a senior researcher at the University of Queensland, and has spent a lot of time developing the PumpHub and the other pump systems.
He’s also co-founded the Breast Milk Network, which is trying to raise money for breast milk programs around the world.
He tells New Scientist: “This pump will make it easier for us to start to introduce more new models and services for women.”
It will also mean more money for Breast Milk Australia.
Breast Milk Australian, which organises and distributes breast milk, is currently operating in five states and territories: NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia and Queensland.
Its annual budget is $50,000.
For Matt, this is a big win.
“If we can bring in a lot less funding, it’s a lot easier for a lot fewer women to get access to breast milk,” he says.
“And for us, it means a lot to have that much of an impact on women.”
